Earthbound - Introduction
The paintings in this series were produced with a limited palette, which was informed by the recent adoption of metal-point drawing as a technique. I chose to utilise a limited range of high quality earth colours after having done some reading on the most unchanging, chemically stable and light-fast colours available. These pigments, in their fixed nature, seemed to me like a kind of base material to rely upon.
The works portray figures manipulating natural energies in order to separate themselves from the body of earth they are bound to. A series of printed images was made alongside the paintings. These prints utilised photopolymer plates in both intaglio and relief methods.
